Liebster Award: Q&As about me!

Image and official rules over on The Global Aussie.

Demisexual and Proud tagged me into the Liebster Award. Thank you!

The rules can be found here:

1. Acknowledge the blogger who nominated you and display the award logo.

2. Answer the 11 questions the blogger gives you.

3. Nominate bloggers who you think are deserving of the award but also help promote newer bloggers with less followers.

4. Tell the bloggers you nominated them, in a comment on their blog.

5. Give them 11 questions of your own.

So lets see how well I answer Demisexual and Proud’s questions!

What was the catalyst for you to start blogging, and what keeps you writing now?

I had a vague desire to start a blog but didn’t know what I should write about. Someone at an Ace meetup suggested I write about my dating life and I ran with it. I wrote about it briefly in my introductory post. I’m only two months into my blogging and I don’t know how long I’ll keep writing or whether my blog will be successful. But one of the reasons why I want to continue is to provide other Aces with proof that they’re not alone. I also like writing. I just need to go on (bad) first dates and write about them. 🙂

What do you consider the best part of yourself?

Finding strength in darkness? I’m not a lighthearted person and suffered through my own personal problems. But I find that I’m good at using this trait to empathize with people who are suffering. I’m the person you can turn to if something bad happens; I won’t run away. I feel weird about writing this but it’s one of the things I’m good at.

What stranger, friend or family has continued to be an example throughout your life (describe what they mean to you, if you want to keep it general)?

My best friend Ivy* was an example to me for a long time. She is my opposite in many ways but I depended on her for my sanity.

What is the most important choice you ever made, to you personally?

My decision to attend my first Ace meetup. It changed my life in many ways. I met many friends because of that decision, including luvtheheaven, Jackie, and many others. I understand myself better now and I feel happier as a result.

If you had to describe yourself in a movie tagline, e.g. the callous reporter or the down-to-earth jazz musician or the calm old soul, what phrase would you use?

The grounded realist? The recovering liberal do-gooder?

Congratulations, you are now the President of the United States. What’s your first executive order?

One of the lessons that I’ve learned while living in Washington, DC and working within the federal system to improve healthcare in the U.S. is that the presidency is a very powerful position with limits. It’s not a position that grants you immeasurable power because you have to work with Congress, the judiciary, the federal bureaucracy, the media, the public, and the rest of the world. And yet there’re examples of Presidents who know how to wield power effectively (I highly recommend Robert Caro’s books on Pres. Johnson or any of the histories written by David McCullough, Ron Chernow, and Joseph Ellis). I guess this is a long-winded way of explaining that I take this kind of question way more seriously than the normal person.

I’ve spent most of my career working to improve healthcare access among the most vulnerable. Even now in my position as an elder law attorney, I’m working mostly to advocate for the elderly and disabled. So if I became President, my first Executive Order would probably be directed to increasing healthcare services or ending a discriminatory practice. Or maybe my first Executive Order would recognize a historically unrepresented group and declare a holiday.

I don’t know. I’m making this question overly complicated.

Earth has been destroyed and you flee the planet. Describe the space ship you’re on.

I want to be on the spaceship used on the Star Trek: Enterprise. I had a crush on Data and I don’t know why. Does anyone want to psychoanalyze me? I suddenly realized he has a similarity to Tom but I don’t know if I’m being mean or not. (I am being mean, amn’t I?)

What is your favourite superpower?

My favorite superpower is precognition. I like the stereotype of the wise person who can see the future.

What’s your guiltiest pleasure?

I like eating so I get a lot of pleasure from eating foods that I’m not supposed to (hence the extra 10 pounds). But I guess my real guilty pleasure is my erotica collection. I have an inordinate amount of smut for someone who doesn’t sow her wild oats. I wonder what people will think if I get hit by a bus one day and they look through my Amazon purchases.

You get one freebie to smack a person in the face without consequences. Who will it be?

I honestly can’t think of anyone who I’d want to hit. However, if I had the opportunity to say vicious things to someone without consequences, that’ll be fanatastic.

What polysyllabic (big-ass) word has become a common word in your vocabulary?

Curmudgeon. Luddite. Determinant.

I’m nominating Luvtheheaven to answer the following questions:

  1. What inspires you to continue blogging?
  2. What superpower would you want?
  3. What would you do if you won the lottery today?
  4. What personal values do you subscribe to most?
  5. How do you see yourself in twenty or thirty years?
  6. If you can run the world, what would you do first?
  7. Which countries would you visit if you can travel for a year?
  8. Who inspires you the most and why?
  9. What shows do you like watching?
  10. If there was one thing you wished everyone would know, what would it be?
  11. What do you like most about yourself?

Wow, answering all of the questions and drafting additional questions were hard! Thanks for reading.

  1. Hah, good responses XD. I feel you on the Star Trek, but I’d have to go for Janeway’s ship. Badass female captain and no way to get home, sign me up.

I’m glad you were able to meet people and feel more in touch with your sexuality now, too 🙂

  2. Aw wow your answers to this are all so great. 😉 Lol but precognition is usually portrayed as such a curse/burden, not a gift in the fiction I recall that incorporates it. And lol you didn’t answer WHO you would say those vicious things to….

So I guess these new questions were all written with just me in mind because I was the only person you nominated lol. XD Well thank you. I will do my best to answer these relatively soon.
